Why Does This Site Exist?
This site exists to share my experiences with others, to provide resources for the raw food community, and to help people who are new to raw foods. On a metaphysical level, this site exists because you attracted it into your life, and are consciously perceiving it. :-)
What Is Your Diet Like? Is it All Raw Foods?
I have been eating raw since May 2004. Ninety percent of my diet is from raw foods. I eat organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Occasionally, I will eat cooked vegetables, toasted Ezekiel 4:9 bread (Ezekiel bread is made from live, sprouted grains), or cooked sweet potatoes. I always take enzymes when eating anything cooked.
Have You Always Been Vegan?
No. Before 2004, I had always eaten meat. Growing up, I ate mainly "meat and potato" type of meals, and my mother made dinner from scratch every night.
I did not become vegan for "noble" reasons—such as being concerned about animal rights (that came later). Instead, I became vegan because I wanted to improve my health.
How Did You Start Eating Raw?
I was in a bookstore and was passing through the cookbook section. On the shelf in front of me was Juliano's cookbook entitled Raw: The Uncook Book. It looked interesting. I opened the book and started reading. Most of Juliano’s recipes required exotic and difficult-to-find ingredients, but I was intrigued by the idea of eating raw, and the benefits it offered (briefly outlined in the book). I went home and researched the raw food diet online. I ordered books on the subject, and read for 1-2 hours every night after work. I decided that eating raw was the best choice for me both nutritionally and spiritually.
